Have you ever had a dream that you felt you would never be able to make true? Have you ever a goal that you told someone and they just looked at you like you were crazy? In this book Derek Jeter writes about how he had a dream from a young child and how hard he had to work to make his dream come true. Jeter had many obstacles that almost made him give up on his dreams, but he didn’t let any of them stop him, and in 1996, he made it to the World Series playing shortstop for the N.Y. Yankees. He states many different situations from throughout his life, and compares them to other peoples’ dreams. Jeter lists some support people and other things and people who helped him reach his goal.

Derek Jeter’s first piece of advice was to think of a goal, but not just any goal. It has to be a goal that you really want to accomplish. Jeter says that if you aim your goals low, then you’ll never know how good it feels to overcome many obstacles to reach something you really wanted.

The movie “Il Postino” exhibited the theme of love in many ways. A few of the many ways are: friendship love, romantic love, lust, love for ones country, and family love, just to name a few. The theme was, we don’t know what we got until they’re gone.’ Friendship love is in this movie, between Neruda and Mario. They become really good friends, but Narudo has some family problems and has to leave Mario. During that time apart, Mario never stopped thinking about the life he had working with Narudo with poetry. Neruda didn’t write Mario for a long time, and when he did it was very informal. He had his secretary write it for him. Then after a couple years went by Neruda learned of his friend’s death, and felt guilt and remorse because he didn’t do everything he could to reconnect with his old friend.

The movie also showed a theme or two relating to social class. The main one that I noticed was ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’. This theme is shown when Mario becomes a communist. Most of the people in this town were illiterate, so no one really knew what their leader was doing or saying when he made a law. When Mario became a communist, he realized what their leader was doing. He then let the other people know, and once everyone was aware of the situation, people began to think for themselves.

Another type of theme this movie showed was related to poetry. The theme, ‘never give up’ is what is displayed for this one. Mario was the son of a fisherman, and had no intention of carrying on that family job. When Mario met Neruda, he became fascinated with poetry, and wanted to learn how to write it. Well, he soon became Narudo’s personal mailman, and learn all the ways to write poetry. Although Mario never felt he could write poetry like Neruda, Neruda never let him give up, and always told him to keep writing. When Neruda had to go home, Mario lost his encouragement to keep writing, and soon stopped writing poetry.

This movie seemed, very interesting, sadly though, I missed most of it. From what I saw and read on it, it seems like a very inspirational movie. It tells about friends, that are separated after they became close, and one is a poet, and the other in an inspiring poet. One goes on to become famous, while the other drops poetry all together and starts to work at a restaurant. In the end one of them dies, and the other feels remorse and guilt because he never kept in contact with his friend, after he moved away. I would love to actually be able to sit down and watch the full movie. It seemed really good.

I walk down this road at mid-night
with you on my mind
the only companion I have is the wolf,
in the distance, howling to the moon

I think about you everyday
I miss your presense
I miss hearing your voice
I miss your advice
but most of all I miss you

although you left to soon
I really got to know you
and many people miss you

I feel you touched my life alot
it's hard to explain cuz you are no longer here
but I'll try so other people know

you were fun to be with
you always made me laugh
even when all I wanted to do was cry

now I'm older
but I still look back on times we shared
while you were here

after you past
I found a star in the sky,
I claimed it as your star

every night for months to follow
I stare at the star and cry
wandering why you left me so soon

a few years have past since you left
but you've never been out of my mind, heart, and life

now I'm alone walking this street
the wolf has stopped howling
and I feel all alone again

I'm in a different place
and I can't find your star
I wish I was at home,
where your presense still lingers. <3

most people claim they have courage,
most people do.
but most have courage for the wrong reasons

what is courage to you?

courage to me is
having the strength to forgive someone
but it also means
having the strength to admit you've done wrong

the dictionary's deffinition of courage is
mental or moral strength to venture, persevere,
and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty

how many think that it takes courage to forgive?

to me
if you have the courage to forgive and
to admit wrong doing
then you have alot of courage

no one ever wants to admit wrong doing
but i will

but the real question I want you to ask yourself
right now is
do I have the strength to forgiveor
admit I'VE done wrong?

with all that said
explain what you think courage is to me

what is courage to you?

I'm running, running fast,
as if I were in a marathon,

All I hear is my blood pumping
through my vains as water
flowing down a rushing river.

Everything is a blur,
as I am running.
The houses, the surroundings,
I see none.

I look back and see this dog,
chasing me
and it makes me go faster.

Finally I notice
I hear nothing
but my own heavy breathing,
and my blood pumping.

The dogs is gone,
and I am safe.

I'm reaching,
reaching for a helping hand

No one knows,
what it's like to see nothing.

All day long,
I hear about the beauties
of the surrounding world,
but I can never see them.

People always feel sorry for me
because I am blind.

But I look at it this way,
I know nothing but blindness.

I don't know beauty,
I don't know pretty,
I don't know what the world looks like.

I have never seen the sun,
I have never seen the moon,
I have never seen a rainbow.

I've heard of them all,
but I can't see them.

I wish I could see the day,
I wish I could see the night,
I wish I could see my mother's face

No one knows how hard it is
to go through life.....being blind.

Sensation
On the blue summer evenings, I shall go down the paths,
Getting pricked by the corn, crushing the short grass:
In a dream I shall feel its coolness on my feet.
I shall let the wind bathe my bare head.

I shall not speak, I shall think about nothing:
But endless love will mount in my soul;
And I shall travel far, very far, like a gipsy,
Through the countryside - as happy as if I were with a woman.

Arthur Rimbaud
March 1870.

I liked this poem the most of his, because he was talking about what he felt when he was around a women. I've read many love peoms and writen a few myself, but now sound like this one. I thought it was very good. Rimbaud is comparing the countryside to a women, meaning both are beautiful.
